At HU Dining, our culinary team recognizes the growing need for Vegan, Gluten-Free, & Halal options for students. We actively engage with and take suggestions from students with dietary needs to help improve our program to one that fits the needs of all.

Vegan
Vegan students may rest assured that there are plenty of options made for them on campus! Our dining halls, Bethune Annex Cafe & Blackburn Cafe, have Plant-Based stations that not only offer delicious grab and go items, but they also offer a customizable, made-to-order vegan broth bowl and a plethora of vegan items such as butters, cheeses, dressings, meatless chicken nuggets, seasoned jackfruit, deli slices, and more! Grab and go items rotate day-to-day, and the newest addition to the vegan lineup is Impossible “Meat.” Please feel free to ask for a chef or manager at either location to make requests or suggest new items to try!

In addition to our dining halls, HU Dining has partnered up with NuVegan, a local soul food restaurant, to provide an express version of their brand on campus on the first floor of the Blackburn Center. Additional retail locations with vegan items include: the Halal Shack, WOW American Eats, Pandinis & Hilltop Burgers Food Truck.

Religious Diets
If you follow a religious diet rest assured that you’ll find plenty of menu options at Howard University. Halal meats are available at the Halal Shack in the Punchout, and we offer Halal chicken daily in our dining halls.

Gluten-Free
Gluten-free items such as pastries, pastas, cereals and dressings are available upon request at Bethune Annex and Blackburn Cafe. Please ask for a supervisor to assist with your request.

Allergies
We take pride in serving you wholesome ingredients, preparing recipes accurately and providing nutritional analysis and ingredient statements through our online menus and nutrition calculator. From our general manager to our front line servers, we work carefully to address food allergies, celiac diets, or other special dietary needs. We want to meet one-on-one with anyone who has individual dining needs to ensure that your dining experience is safe, delicious, and social.
